THE KWANDALA FOUNDATION - INTRODUCTION

THE KWANDALA FOUNDATION

We would like to introduce THE KWANDALA FOUNDATION with the slogan “Give A Coin For Life”. It is a CAC Registered (CAC/IT/NO 38360) Non-Government Organization, initiated by a group of concerned citizens in Kano North-West Nigeria, in January 2005 following the ASIAN TSUNAMI DISASTER, with the sole aim of raising funds, materials and technical aids to provide relief for victims, communities and environments devastated by any disasters, anywhere in the world, irrespective of race, colour, gender, age, religion or location.

KWANDALA 4 TSUNAMI PROJECT was thus initiated. It all started from the simple idea of collecting at least One (1) Kwandala from each and every Nigerian, if we can, to help the victims of South-East Asian Tsunami Disaster. Initially, providing relief for the TSUNAMI DEVASTATION of lives, properties and environment was our main aim, but during the course of our planning, a crucial question occurred to the Founders, which is “After the Tsunami Project, what next?” So it was agreed that our effort should go beyond the immediate target. Thus THE KWANDALA FOUNDATION was born.

The Foundation’s Umar Muhammad Dutse Secretariat is currently located at No 5 Club/Independence Road Bompai Kano, Nigeria. It has a Board of Trustees with membership comprising notable, trustworthy and respectable personalities in the society. They include:

PROJECTS

Some of the major projects The Kwandala Foundation has executed thus far in its short life span include the following among several others:

1. Kwandala4Tsunami – February 2005; initiating project, for victims of Southeast Asian
Tsunami.

2. Kwandala4RuqayyaIbrahim – March 2005; a kidney transplant patient that needed N2.5
Million and a donor, both of which the foundation succeeded in getting but unfortunately the 22 year old young woman died before the trip to Egypt for the surgery.

3. Kwandala4NigerFoodCrisis - July 2005; a challenging project that saw the Foundation soliciting for
and receiving relief materials, financial and medical aids from individuals and organizations, then traveling to Zarmou, a village in Zindar State of Niger to deliver the items in October, 2005.

4. Kwandala4PSComputers - February 2006; educational project in which The Foundation sourced
for 250 computers for distribution to primary schools in Kano State, Nigeria in order to raise awareness for Computer Literacy and Internet potential among pupils.

5. Currently, we are executing KWANDALA4SAMANJA & OTHERS, which will see us gathering the sum of N1.5 million on behalf of Samanja (Mazan Fama) aka Usman Baba Pategi to enable him to travel to India for a Glaucoma eye surgery at Asian Columbia Hospital in Bangalore. This all important operation would enable the famous NTA Kaduna & NTA NETWORK (Nigeria) comedy star regain his fast diminishing eye sight.

It is our ardent hope that you all will donate and also ask your family, friends, colleagues and neighbors to please DONATE, EVEN IF IT IS JUST A SINGLE COIN (i.e.one Kwandala).
