A KWANDALA FOUNDATION WEDDING 2005

DAHIRU & SAFIYYA, A NEW DAWN

The date was Saturday 31st December 2005. The time was 11.00 in the morning. The venue was Sunusi Lamido Sunusi’s Residence (the bride’s Waliyy) along Ibrahim Dabo Road, at the outskirt of the old ancient city of Kano. The weather was cool, with the sun shining bright and glowing with soft warmth. The crowd was monumental, yet as humble as should be. Famous faces, some familiar, others totally strange, meeting for the very first time, may be for the last time. Yet the mood was smiley and comforting as every one present was generous with sincere pleasantries to all. The event demands for that and much more. The occasion was a Wedding Fatiha. The Islamic union of two loving souls was about to be witnessed by all, to usher in a new dawn, a new beginning of hope, a continuity of linage and ultimately of mankind.

A unique day by all means, if not for anyone, at least for a young couple whose aspirations and hopes were finally being fulfilled. It is the end of a life long struggle and the celebration of a victorious new chapter. Most of us desire to be loved as partners, to be respected as husbands and wives, to be honoured as fathers and mothers, to leave a befitting and lasting legacy. Some of us are fortunate, while others can only demonstrate patience. The purpose of our gathering was therefore always anticipated with nostalgia by all chaste and composed souls. And for us The Kwandala Foundation, the exciting and eventful Year 2005 came to a final close with this blessed marriage of two of our quality members in the persons of Safiyya Abba Abubakar, the pioneer Treasurer of The K. Foundation and Dr. Abdullahi Dahiru.

The nuptial knot tying commenced as soon as the representatives of the groom arrived at the venue with the usual bag of kolanuts and other items. Soon the exchange was conducted between the 2 Waliyys of the bride and the groom. Moments later there was the call for “Ayi salatin Annabi goma, goma” meaning the groom has fulfilled all requirements and has accepted all the responsibilities that goes with taking a Muslim sister as a wife and companion for life, Allah Willing. The Sadaki was announced as N20, 000.00 (Twenty Thousand Naira Only). Prayers were offered to Allah on the couple’s behalf and on behalf of all Muslims both alive and dead. Thus concluded, Safiyya Abba Abubakar has now been elevated to the envious position of a Mrs. and the main gathering dispersed, family, leaving old friends and acquaintances to continue catching up on missed parts of their lives.

Members of The Kwandala Foundation however gathered around and formally congratulated the groom Dr. Abdullahi Dahiru, wishing his new family the very best in undertaking the responsibility Allah has bestow upon them. They also reminded him that his bride is a jewel, an epitome of knowledge and Allah Willing a good representative of the Muslim Woman, so the need to cherish her, while being patient with her short comings.

The Founder and President of The Foundation Arc. Tijjani Muhammad Musa was there to witness the very first marriage among the NGO members, praying that love and understanding, patience, respect and tolerance for each other regardless of who is who in their home, will form the building ingredients of their marriage foundation. Other members present at the occasion include the Foundation’s PRO Salihu Tanko Yakasai, Projects Committee Chairman Abdallah King Hussain, Datti Garko, Yusuf Ibrahim, Ibrahim Moda B/Wapa, Abdullahi 40,30, the 5 latest young members and many others. All members pray to Allah to grant the new “Dahirus” a peaceful and fruitful co-existence.

Finally, here a piece of advice to all Newly Weds who might be reading this “In your home, avoid ‘the mischief of the whisperer (of evil), who withdraws (after whispering)’Q114:4
